A neck that locks up on Wednesdays is usually a desk, a commute and a bench press conspiring. Rubbing the painful bit gets you two comfortable days. Finding what is loading it gets you further.
That is why the first appointment is ninety minutes and most of it is assessment. Treatment is far more useful once there is a reason behind it.
What happened, when, what makes it worse, what you do all day and what you do in the gym. Then movement — watching how you actually load the area rather than guessing from the symptom.
Soft tissue work targeted at what the assessment found. Firm where it needs to be, adjusted to you, explained as it goes so you know what is being worked on and why.
Two or three specific things to do between now and the next appointment. Treatment holds far better when the load that caused it changes — and that part happens outside the room.
You do not need a Fitness First membership for massage. See the full pricing guide or read about personal training in St Albans.
An initial assessment and treatment is 90 minutes and costs £120 — currently £100 until 15 September 2026. Follow-up treatments are 60 minutes at £80, currently £70 during the same offer window. Blocks of three treatments are £225 (£75 each) and blocks of six are £420 (£70 each).
The first session is 90 minutes because most of it isn't massage. Terangi takes a full history, watches how you move, and works out what is actually causing the problem rather than treating the spot that hurts. Treatment follows in the same session, and you leave with specific things to do between appointments.
No. Most clients are people who sit at a desk, run a few times a week, play weekend sport, or are simply stiff and sore. The techniques come from sport, but the problems they solve — tight hips, a locked-up neck, a calf that keeps tightening — are not limited to athletes.
It can be firm, but pain is not the point and it is not a measure of whether the treatment is working. Pressure is matched to the tissue and to you, and it is adjusted throughout. Tell Terangi if it is too much and it changes immediately.
For an acute problem, often two or three. For something long-standing, or if you are training hard, a block of three or six spaced across several weeks works better and costs less per session. You will get an honest answer at the first appointment — including if the answer is that you need a physiotherapist or a GP instead.
No. Massage takes place in a treatment room at Fitness First, Christopher Place, and you do not need a gym membership to be treated — the same goes for personal training on the gym floor.
