The story

The project that
broke me.

Fifteen years ago I was running one of the biggest projects of my events career — something that should have been magical, something I should have been proud of. Instead I was receiving one email a minute. Waking six times a night, firing off task lists in the dark. Three hours of broken sleep, maximum.

I felt inadequate. Overwhelmed. Like a failure on a project that would take me ten years to feel proud of. At the time, no one called it burnout. No one even discussed it. You just pushed through, or you broke.

I broke.

What burnout
actually costs.

After that project I didn't just feel tired. I was in physical pain. My shoulders were locked. I couldn't sleep properly for months. My digestion was a mess. I thought I needed a holiday. What I actually needed was someone to explain what my body had been through — and how to start undoing it.

Chronic overload activates the body's threat response, flooding the system with cortisol and adrenaline. When the pressure never lets up, the central nervous system gets stuck — the alarm keeps firing long after it should have stopped. The physical symptoms: chronic fatigue, locked muscles, gut issues, broken sleep. That wasn't weakness. That was biology.

The question I
couldn't stop asking.

Training as a massage therapist taught me how to heal myself. And it left me with a question I haven't stopped asking since: how do I help others do the same?

I started working with people from the events industry — people I knew, people who recognised the 1am emails and the feeling of running on nothing. Then athletes. Then women in their 40s and 50s navigating perimenopause and wondering why everything had stopped working. And something clicked.

After 25+ years in events and experiential production, I haven't left that world entirely. But I've learned something it never taught me: your body is the infrastructure everything else runs on. When it fails, everything fails.

The events industry taught me how to operate under pressure.
Burnout taught me what that pressure costs.
What I do now sits between the two.
